LIVE From Morton High School

Arrived at Morton High School a couple minutes past 4:00, beating the Galesburg freshman bus. In the Mid-Illini, freshman play before varsity and sophomores play on Saturday. The Streaks freshman will have played twice before the sophomores kick off their 2010 season.

I spoke with "PotterPAGuy" before the game, and we exchanged pronunciations for the night. He mentioned his dad would be heading over later, but was taking in the Dee-Mack first half. I met him when I spoke at the San Jose reunion a few years back. I was there with Kev Varney on behalf of Illinois High School Glory Days (www.illinoishsglorydays.com).

I settled into the visitors press box, and unpacked like I was staying for a week. It's a ricketty old press box, but there's a roof over my head. Very windy! I have my starting lineups taped to the wall to my left. My laptop to the far left of the table, and my broadcast equipment on a stool right next to me. This gives me ample room to have a little space to take stats, and have my color commentator for the night (Arnie Gonzalez) a place to stand. Also, some room for the WGIL radio guys. It will be tight quarters!

Lombard football coach Mike Wright joined me early for the freshman game, and will be taping tonight's game for the team. Winds are gusting at 25 mph, and are consistently between 15-20 mph, so I must take advantage of paper weights and duct tape!

At halftime of the freshman game, Morton leads Galesburg 8-0. Weather conditions currently: 71 degrees with winds out of the west 15-20 mph, gusting to 25 mph. The field at Morton High School runs east to west.
